Delight for Doddington Three Lions as they beat Hartford Rangers Reserves in Reg Haigh and Arthur Peck Cup Final

Cambs County League 4B promotion hopefuls Doddington Three Lions assured themselves of silverware this season when they beat Hartford Rangers Reserves 2-0 in the final of the Reg Haigh and Arthur Peck Cup on Friday evening.

Two goals from Joe Waters saw the newly-formed team win the clash on Newmarket Town’s artificial surface against their promotion rivals.

Both goals came in the very early stages of the first half and then Doddington put on an impressive defensive display to hold on after the break.

Doddington now face 11 League games in 32 days as they go for promotion at the first attempt, starting with a clash at Soham United on Tuesday evening.

In the Premier Division, Wisbech St Mary’s top five hopes received a blow when they lost 3-1 at third placed Foxton, after Michael Chow had given them a 15th minute lead. Bottom of the table March Town Reserves lost 7-2 at leaders West Wratting.

Leaders AFC Emneth drew 1-1 at home to third placed Somersham Town in Senior A, Toby Allen scoring 36th his goal of the season, leaving them needing five points from six games to secure promotion and six points for the title.

In Senior B, Chatteris Town are third from bottom after a 4-1 home defeat against Histon Reserves, but games in hand should mean they are safe. Billy Munns scored.

Benwick Athletic went down 4-1 at Witchford Reserves in 1B, while in 2B third placed Chatteris Town Reserves are still in the promotion race after a 3-3 draw at fourth placed Papworth.

Fen Tigers Engineers pulled away from the drop zone with a crucial 2-1 win at fellow strugglers Brampton Reserves, Matthew Foy and Will Terry scoring, but Jack Ryan seeing red. Manea United’s relegation was confirmed, however, after a 3-0 defeat at Crusaders.

Top of the table Outwell Swifts are marching towards the 3B title after a 6-1 win at bottom side Bluntisham Rangers Reserves. Adan-Jay Lewis and Jack Brand hit two each to make it 28 and 19 for the season respectively, and Ross Beart and Dylan Pevreall also netted.

There was a surprise defeat, however, for AFC Emneth Reserves, two goals in the final 10 minutes seeing them beaten 2-1 at Soham Town Rangers A, Ricky Mason scoring.

Upwell Town lost 4-3 at home to March Academy Adults in 4B, Jamie Corbin, Jayson Rippon and Anthony Wallbridge scoring for Town and Joshua Kirby grabbing all four for Academy. In the same division, Manea United Reserves were beaten 7-0 at Stretham Reserves.

Leverington Sports’ recent brilliant Peterborough League Premier Division run goes on and they won 1-0 at Deeping Rangers Reserves to make it four wins and a draw from the last six games. They are only now in the bottom two on narrow goal difference, with away games against relegation rivals Wittering Premiair and Oundle Town over the next two Saturdays.

Also battling impressively to stay up are Tydd, who won 3-1 at bottom side Ramsey Town, Brad Easey’s hat trick taking him to 29 goals in 21 appearances this season and putting him 11 clear at the top of the Premier Division scoring charts.

In Division One, Long Sutton Athletic lost 2-0 at home to high-flying Sawtry and, on Wednesday evening, Wisbech Town Reserves’ poor recent run continued with a 4-1 home defeat against Whittlesey Athletic Reserves.

Leverington Sports Reserves made it back to back wins with a 4-2 victory at struggling Wittering Premiair A in Division Two, Bailey Smart including rare header in his brace and Martin Wright and Sam Miller also on traget. But Tydd Reserves remain in the relegation places after losing by the same scoreline at Glinton & Northborough.

Sutton Bridge United beat Netherton United A 3-1 in Division Three, Jordan Collison, Kurt Scott and sub Tiarni Batchelor netting, while Long Sutton Athletic Reserves were beaten 6-1 at Uppingham Town Reserves.

Finally, Marshland Saints Reserves triumphed 3-1 at Docking Rangers Reserves in Division Two of the North West Norfolk League, Callum Rogers scoring two and Alan Jez rounding off the scoring.
