Fenland athletes compete in a string of different events at Brighton, Derbyshire and St Neots

Fenland Running Club's Malcom Tuff picked up the first-place award in the M55/59 category at the Sportlink Norfolk Road Championships.

Tuff won eight of the nine races in his age category and was second in the other.

Having turned 60 recently, Tuff began his pursuit of the top spot in that age category, competing in the Brighton 10k along the seafront accompanied by the usual winds.

The race enables runners to seek qualification for the England Masters and Tuff didn't disappoint in this respect coming a creditable third in his age in a time of 37:03 and final position of 185/2400 competitors.

The club had two members at the Heanor Pud Run - a friendly event run through and around Shipley Park Derbyshire, which given the terrain which is undulating in this area it is not considered a course for setting personal bests.

However, Fenland had two runners competing at this event and while not considered conducive for PBs one of the Fenland runners did achieve a course best (CB) by 20 seconds even though as she put it there were "a couple of vicious hills thrown in".

At the finish you are presented as you cross the line with a mince pie, warm mulled wine and a Christmas pudding to take home. The respective results were: Tom Richards 43:39 (62/719) and Jac Richards 55:00 (CB, 230/719).

Four members took on the St Neots Half Marathon.

The first home from the club was Paul Wiegand in a time of 1:47:34, placing 431/1111.

Wiegland is quoted as saying: "he felt he had the measure of the hills this year compared to last and this he attributed to racing less throughout the summer season."

The other three Fenland accredited themselves well with all turning in excellent performances given that for many it’s been a long hard season.
