Fenmen and Hares wait on weather
Wisbech Town FC and March Town FC both will be hoping the weather improves next weekend.
The Fenmen’s ChromaSport & Trophies United Counties League Premier Division game at second from bottom side Northampton Sileby Rangers fell victim to torrential rain.
The Hares had no scheduled fixture but have played no football since December 13, so they will want next weekend’s Thurlow Nunn First Division trip up to King’s Lynn Reserves at The Walks to go ahead.
Wisbech Town, in fifth position and without too much festive football to speak of themselves, travel to 15th-place Wellingborough Town next Saturday.
Wisbech Town manager Dick Creasey said of the weekend’s postponement: “I spoke to my son who lives a mile away from Sileby and it was absolutely teeming it down.
“You can’t help the weather, but it is a disappointment.
“We wanted to play as we haven’t played a lot of football.”
Creasey wanted to get minutes on the pitch for the recovering Josh Ford and Billy Smith.
“Josh was going to have a few minutes for his Sunday side but that got frozen off.
“We’ll see how things are in training.”
For Wellingborough, Stuart Cobb should have recovered from a tight hamstring suffered on Boxing Day, while Neal Spafford carries over his one-game suspension.
Wisbech Reserves’ PFA Senior Cup tie against Ketton was switched to the Fenland Stadium and Wisbech won 2-1 to go through to the quarter-finals.
Andre Da Silva, sent off in the second half, and Jacob Smith notched first half goals.
