Chatteris fighter Gill weighs in ahead of big fight night
Jordan Gill has weighed in ahead of his featherweight clash with hard hitting Reece Belotti tomorrow.
The Chatteris boxer goes toe to toe with his fellow Brit on Saturday at Matchroom headquarters in Essex, knowing the winner could fight for the European title later this year.
Gill (26) and the nine other fighters on the card will box behind closed doors but the bouts will be shown live on Sky Sports.
Both boxers have previously held the Commonwealth title, with 'The Thrill' enjoying victories in 24 of his 25 fights and fellow Brit Bellotti (29) having a record of 14 wins and three losses in his 17 bouts.
Twelve of those Bellotti wins have come by way of knockouts, although the three defeats have been in his last five outings.
The 12-round fight takes place at in the grounds of the Matchroom fight camp in Brentwood, Essex and will be Gill’s biggest challenge since he turned professional eight years ago this month.
Gill trained at his Chatteris home during the height of lockdown, but since restrictions have been lifted, he has been back at the Caldwell gym in Sheffield.
He said: Training has gone well and I am looking forward to putting on a good show. This really is a fight that neither of us can afford to lose.
“I am hoping that with a good performance here, I will then be able to push forward to a European Title fight either later this year or early next year.
“I am always grateful for the support I get from my fans and with this being the first live boxing on Sky since March, I am hoping that more people will be tuning in to enjoy the fight.”
Gill's fight against Belotti is on the undercard of Sam Eggington vs Ted Cheeseman, with other bouts including James Tennyson v Gavin Gwynne, Fabio Wardley v Simon Valley and Dalton Smith v Nathan Bennett.
