First win of the season for Wisbech St Mary




Wisbech St Mary finally got a first win of the season under their belt on Saturday with a 3-1 win at Milton in the Cambs County League Premier Division.

An overhead kick by Grant Rider gave the Saints a 47th minute lead but Milton fought back to equalise two minutes later. Scott Drewery restored the lead 11 minutes from time and Freddie Collison secured the victory in the 83rd minute.

March Town Reserves are top of Senior B after a 2-1 win at Cottenham United. James Monaghan opened the scoring for the Hares before the break from close range and they extended their lead through a 25-yard Matteo Cavozzi effort early in the second half.

March gave away a silly penalty for the home side to reduce the arrears but they held on bravely for the last 15 minutes to secure another three points.

In the same division, Wimblington made it five league wins on the bounce when they beat St Ives Town Reserves 5-1. Alexander Knowles scored two, and Gary Smith, Billy Munns and an own goal added to the tally.

Chatteris Town Reserves’ first league defeat of the season was a heavy one, losing 8-2 at home to 1B leaders Hartford Rangers, Benjamin Roberts and sub Callum Wilkinson scoring. Benwick Athletic (Christchurch) were also beaten, 2-1 at second-place Stretham, James Harness scoring. March Town A lost 3-0 at Hemingfords United Reserves.

Manea United lost 6-1 at home to Huntingdon United Reserves in 2B, while in 3B Doddington Three Lions drew 2-2 at home to Wilbrahams.

Wisbech St Mary A have now scored 27 goals in four games after beating Pymoor 7-2 in 4B for a fourth win from four. March Academy made it three wins from four with a 1-0 home win over Stretham Reserves, Jack Conyard scoring.

Chatteris Town A won 2-0 at home to Mepal and Sutton Reserves, Dean Joyce and sub Keane Robertson on target, and Manea United Reserves won 2-1 at Wisbech Town Acorns, Anthony Horn scoring for Acorns and Gary Newman and Raymond Owusu Appiah on target for Manea.

Guyhirn were beaten 3-2 at home against Willingham Wolves, and Outwell Swifts Reserves triumphed 4-2 at home against Upwell Town, Jack Brand, Charlie Enever, Daniel French and sub Ben Langmuir netting for Swifts.

Peterborough League Premier Division sides were in Senior Cup action this weekend, with Leverington Sports triumphing 4-1 against Stanground Sports and Tydd kickstarting their campaign with a 4-1 win at Wittering Premiair, Keaton Stringer notching a hat-trick and sub Sam Cooper also netting.

Chatteris Town are top of Division One after a superb 6-1 win at Deeping United. After falling a goal behind, Harley Williams netted a hat-trick and Sam Bond, Jack McLoughlin and Casey Stonnell-Fitzgerald also scored in a game where Josh Joyce was named man of the match.

Wisbech Town Reserves were thumped 14-1 at Stilton United, sub Tansil Ibraham netting, and in the Challenge Cup, Sutton Bridge of Division Two were beaten 12-4 at Peterborough City of Division One, Matt Eaton netting three for Bridge and sub Benjamin Thompson also scoring.

Tydd Reserves beat Oakham United Reserves 4-2 in Division Two and Leverington Sports Reserves lost 6-1 at Whaplode Drove Rovers, Samuel Fabela getting their goal.

Long Sutton Athletic Reserves lost 2-1 at Deeping Rangers A in Division Three, Samuel Pemberton netting for the Magpies, and in Division Four Leverington Sports A lost 6-2 at home to Stamford AFC Reserves, Gary Hurrell netting both.

There was a second defeat of the season for Marshland Saints in Division Five North of the Anglian Combination, 5-0 at Holt United Reserves, but Saints Reserves triumphed 4-0 at Crowley Wanderers in Division Two of the North West Norfolk League, Alan Jex scoring twice and Asa Carlton and Ivan Crisp also on target.
