Freear hits century as Wisbech demolish opposition




Gary Freear hammered a ton as Cambs & Hunts league leaders Wisbech Town 1st XI demolished away side Cambridge St Giles by 214 runs on Saturday.

Wisbech, who lead Foxton by 44 points, smashed 334-4 from 50 overs in Whiting & Partners Division 1.

Danny Haynes hit 36, fellow opener Freear 140 from 149 deliveries with 23 boundaries, keeper Josh Bowers 37, Sam Albutt 73 from 38 balls with six sixes and Jamie Seabrook not out 25. Haynes and Freear opened up with 116 while the latter added 100 with Albutt.

They skittled Cambridge St. Giles for 120 inside 33 overs.

Kieran Haynes took 2-31, Jonny Garner 3-30, Seabrook 1-16, Josh Porter 3-17 and overseas player Ryan Clark 1-23. Keeper James Gillespie carried his bat for 44.

Rhys Howell also hit a century, while Wisbech 2nds beat hosts Orton Park by 69 runs to give them hope of avoiding the Division 3 drop.

Wisbech set 261-5 when 45 overs closed. Away opener Dom Stannard compiled 28, Howell 126 off 131 balls with 17 fours, Jamie Gollands 42 and Ross Gardner not out 25.

Orton Park replied with 192 in the 42nd over. Brodie Ellis took 2-42, Anthony Palmer 1-21, Simon Freear 2-47, Chris Clark 2-36, Ian Bell 2-28 and Howell 1-13.

Wisbech 3rds lost at Chippenham by 96 runs in CCA Junior League 2 North. Bobby East hit 155 not out as Chippenham set 266-4 in 40 overs. Robert Sidgewick took 2-57 and Joseph Miller 1-33.

Wisbech replied with 170 all out with two balls left. Opener Nick Osbourne struck 32, Harry Sidgewick 18, Tom Buck 12, skipper Martin Woollard 13, Miller 20, Lee Hoenderkamp not out 16 and Robert Sidgewick 17.

Girton 2nds conceded against Wisbech 4ths, who gathered 20 points.

Eighth-placed Division 1 side March Town lost at home to Eaton Socon by 6 wickets at The Avenue. March reached 151 all out in 45.4 overs. Opener Alex Millard made 13, Brandon Phillips 11, keeper Benjamin Pyle 33, Curtis Oldroyd 43 and skipper Samuel Clarke not out 17.

Eaton Socon made 152-4 in the 33rd over. Callum Young captured 1-8, Shae Pooley 1-30, Alex Millard 1-18 and Curtis Oldroyd 1-6.

March posted 196-8 in 45 overs. Jacob Gray compiled 32, Nigel Wright 42, Anthony Henson 11, Charlie Revell 27 and Adrian Bussey not out 25.

Fifth-spot Chatteris lost by 57 runs at CCA Senior League Division 1 leaders Cambridge NCI.

NCI set 191-9 in 45 overs. Matthew Hollis bagged 1-21, Anton Kaval 2-32, Peter Munns 2-26, Ben Hollis 1-37 and Peter Gunn 1-37.
