Important wins on the road for March Town and Wisbech Town
There were great results for both March Town and Wisbech Town at opposite ends of their respective United Counties Premier League divisions this afternoon.
In the southern section March kept up their hopes of a play-off place with a handsome 4-1 win at bottom side Godmanchester Rovers, while in the northern division, relegation now looks extremely unlikely for Wisbech after a 2-1 win at fellow strugglers Kimberley Miners Welfare.
With seven games remaining, fourth-place March are two points clear of sixth-place Newport Pagnell, who are just outside the play-off positions and have played a game more than The Hares.
Harvey Henderson gave them a 22nd minute lead at Bearscroft Lane this afternoon with his second goal for the club and captain Craig Gillies made it 2-0 three minutes later with his 21st of the season and that’s the way it stayed up to half-time.
Toby Allen’s fourth goal since returning to The Hares made it three on the hour. Goddy quickly pulled one back but Gillies wrapped up the scoring with his second of the afternoon after 70 minutes.
Over at The Stag Ground, Kimberley opened the scoring in the very first minute against Wisbech through Zak Sandhu and kept that advantage for the entire first-half.
Rob Conyard levelled for The Fenmen two minutes after the restart with his sixth in 14 games since rejoining The Reds and in the 68th minute a red card meant The Miners were down to ten men.
The visitors pressed home their one-man advantage when Amir Ward scored an 84th-minute winner with his third goal of the campaign. Wisbech are now 11 points clear of the drop zone with five games remaining.
In the Thurlow Nunn First Division North, Parson Drove slip to 12th after a defensive error contributed to a 1-0 home defeat to Sudbury Reserves who leapfrog them in the table and are now ninth.
Whittlesey Athletic are now 14th but 13 points clear of the relegation after a 0-0 home draw with struggling Needham Market Reserves.
Next Saturday, March Town entertain tenth-place Northampton O.N.Chenecks, who are on a three-game losing run, while Wisbech Town travel to play bottom side Shirebrook Town, who have lost all ten games they have played in 2025.
Parson Drove travel for the return fixture with Sudbury Reserves, while Whittlessey AThletic are away at Swaffham Town. The Pedlars have lost their last eight games, conceding 41 goals and scoring just one in the process.
