March chase play-off spot with games against Bugbrooke St Michaels and Yaxley over Easter weekend
March Town manager Ashley Taylor has questioned his side's mentality as they look to secure a United Counties Premier South play-off berth this weekend.
The Hares end their campaign against two sides in the bottom four of the table as they look to finish in the top five of the table and secure home advantage in the play-off semi-final.
On Saturday, they travel to play Bugbrooke St Michaels before hosting Yaxley on the Bank Holiday.
After suffering a second-consecutive home defeat to Daventry at the weekend, the Hares losing 1-0, Taylor said: "I've just said to the players that I don't think we'll make the play-offs with the way we are paying, so it's up to them to prove me wrong.
"They've got to go to Bugbrooke and show fight because Bugbrooke will. We've got to go there with the right mentality to win a game of football, collectively and individually working together instead of being individual at times.
"I've set the lads a little challenge, they got to be accountable and responsible for it.
"When we are good, I don't think there is any other team better than us in this league. We've shown that by beating and drawing with St Neots and beating Aylestone Park twice.
"It's not about showing it now and again, it's about doing it consistently and wanting it each week. We've got to try to figure out how to be more consistent, look at the mentality of the team and try to get that right."
At the weekend, Taylor's fourth-placed side were undone by a 68th-minute goal by Connor Furey.
The Hares are now just three points in front of Newport Pagnell who lead the pack chasing the play-off places, although, below them, Eynesbury Rovers and Daventry are four and five points behind respectively, but each with a game in hand.
A win for Taylor's side would have left the Hares third and in pole position for a home play-off game.
"It was disappointing for sure with the result we wanted to try to get," said a deflated Taylor after the match.
"We keep pushing for the play-offs, but again we keep making it harder for ourselves.
"When you look at the game on Saturday, it was a game of small margins. It was a little bit similar to the game in the FA Vase. They defended the box really well and we didn't have enough to break them down or that extra little bit of quality.
"They go and score from a set-play when we were on top. We make a mistake when passing the ball back, they get a corner and score.
"It's our mentality and there's lack of leadership in that team and I've just said that to the players.
"Daventry have got some serious players, they've got leaders and players who can get hold of the game.
"We didn't do that on Saturday and we didn't do it the previous weekend. We lacked the leadership and mentality to go and do what we needed to do."
