March Town boss wants to use Daventry Town FA Vase exit as fuel for rest of the season as club swoops for youngster from Yaxley

March Town manager Ash Taylor hopes his players can use Saturday's FA Vase exit as motivation for the rest of the season.

The Hares were beaten 1-0 by Daventry Town in the Fourth Round clash between the two United Counties Premier Division South rivals.

Speaking after Saturday's historic run was ended, Taylor said: "I hope this is a motivational thing that drives them on.

"The disappointment hurts, but when you feel disappointment like this, we've felt it with the semi-finals we lost before and then got to a final and I think that drove us on.

"It's experiencing things like that. The lads have played in front of that crowd today and it's different for them. We've got some young lads in there, we've got some lads that are used to it and it's just another step with this team.

"We've got the furthest this team has ever got to and on another day it could have been different, it's small margins."

The Hares remain in two cup semi-finals and are in the hunt for promotion by currently occupying a place in the play-offs.

"I've just said to the lads in there, what's happened has happened, it's going to hurt," said Taylor.

"I want it to hurt and they are going in front of our fans and celebrating and singing in their changing room, you hear that and it does hurt.

"But for us, we're in two semi-finals and we're still obviously doing well in the league and it's about what's next.

"That's how we've got to do things. It's like this has happened now it's work and let's try and do what we can do in those cups and and in the league.

"We've got a good group in there. We've got a good group and we had a couple of players missing today just through being ineligible with playing in the Vase already.

"They're good lads, I believe in them all and we've got work to do now to try and keep pushing and to try and get to a final and try and do the best we can in the league.

"I know that with that group there's something there and let's see where it takes us."

Saturday's clash saw a bumper crowd of 738 pack into the GER.

"Thank you to them," said Taylor.

"I'm gutted that we can get them rocking more with celebrating a goal and that hurts. It does hurt because you want to give a goal to celebrate or goals to celebrate.

"I don't think they saw a team that wasn't trying to give their all. The players gave their all until the very end and never gave in. On another day you score and today it hasn't happened and we've just got to move on."

On Monday, The Hares completed the signing of attacking player Ryley Nicholson-Barfoot, 21, from Yaxley.

Assistant manager Simon Roberts said: “I am delighted to have Ryley with us at March.

"Having previously managed him at Yaxley, I know he will be a great addition to the squad as we close in on the remainder of the season.

"Even though he’s only 21, I believe Ryley has everything and can go on to big things.

"The lad has a gritty edge to him, along with wonderful ability, really good vision and a keen eye for goal.

"I’m looking forward to helping Ash and the coaching staff develop him into an even better player as part of this talented squad.”

Nicholson-Barfoot added: “I’m really happy to join March Town, and I’m ready to work hard for the team, club and supporters and looking forward to a new challenge."

This weekend, the club travel to play a G.N.G Oadby Town side who are second from bottom and lost 4-1 at the GER in October.
