Five March players from last season turn out for Wisbech in friendly
Five players who have been part of the successful March Town team over the past two season turned out for Wisbech Town in their 2-0 friendly win over Pinchbeck United in Spalding on Tuesday evening.
With the 2020/21 season over and clubs unable to sign players until the summer, players are currently not registered to any teams.
Keeper Charlie Congreve (21), left back Tom Mcleish (27), central defender and Hares captain last season Danny Emmington (26), midfielder Eoin McQuaid (24) and forward Toby Allen (20) all played for the Fenmen.
March boss Arran Duke said: “It’s a strange period of football where clubs are playing some games between the 2020/21 season being curtailed because of Covid lockdown and the 20/21 pre-season starting.
“If they do go to Wisbech, then it’s a step up for them so I wish them all well.”
And Wisbech manager Brett Whaley added: “All I can really say is, I’ve told players that if they are training with us now, they are training to be part of the squad in August.
“And the flipside of that for them is, I am aiming to start pre-season with the same group of players that I end this window with.”
Outwell-based Allen was previously at King’s Lynn Town, Lynn-based McQuaid was with the Linnets and Dereham and had a previous spell at Wisbech.
McLeish is also from Lynn and played for the town before spells at Norwich United and Dereham.
Congreve is another Lynn lad and ex-Linnet and Emmington, from Wisbech, has played for Yaxley, Lynn and also had a previous spell at the Fenland Stadium.
