Wisbech Town Reserves had their hardest test yet under new manager Jonny Pearce and pushed top of the table Warboys Town, who are managed by ex-Fenmen Simon Flanz and Lea Jordan, all the way before losing 3-2..

Wisbech took the lead when Marley Barrett picked up the ball and laid it off to Sean Jacka who let fly from 40 yards to see his shot beat the keeper and hit the back of the net. Warboys pressed hard for the rest of the half but some resolute defending and some great saves by Matty Harrison kept the score at 1-0.

Warboys struck first in the second half when they overloaded the box and got on the end of a good cross, but the visitors went 2-1 up after Ajay Jolly broke away down the left hand side and played a great cross field ball to Barrett who beat his defender to the by line and put in an inch perfect pass for Pawel Kaluzny to drive home.

Warboys pressed hard for an equaliser and drew level after a corner 10 minutes from time, and then piled forward and scored a late winner.

Pearce said: “I am pleased with how the lads took it to them today. Although we lost, we went toe to toe with them and there are positives to take. Next week it’s another break from the league as we face higher opposition (Wittering Premiair) in the league cup so that will be another test for us and one I know the lads will be relishing."

There was a fourth win of the season for Leverington Sports Reserves in Division Three as they beat Kings Cliffe 4-2 at home. In the same division, Tydd Reserves went down 6-0 at FC Peterborough Reserves.
