Wisbech host Bourne in United Counties League Premier Division derby

Wisbech Town boss Luke Hipwell is expecting no favours from Bourne Town when his side entertain the Wakes in UCL Premier Division North derby tomorrow night.

The Lincolnshire outfit blasted double figures for the second time in three matches on Saturday as they made emphatic progress in the Lincolnshire Senior Trophy.

Bourne ran out 10-2 away winners at Northern Counties East League Division One hosts Appleby Frodingham - just 10 days after they defeated Dunkirk 12-3 in a United Counties League Cup clash.

In the reverse fixture earlier in the season, they brushed aside the Fenmen 5-0.

"It is going to be a tough game," said Hipwell.

"Michael (Goode) is doing a really good job there and they are scoring goals for fun and flying. The way they've adapted to this level has been fantastic.

"They are a tight-knit group so we'll put a plan in place, like we always do, to try to disrupt that."

Wisbech pulled five points clear of the United Counties League Premier North relegation area with victory at the home of Heanor Town on Saturday.

After a goalless first half, a second-half penalty from Toby Allen - his sixth goal of the season - sealed the Fenmen’s third league win of the season and their first on the road.

They ended the game with ten men, however, after a second yellow card for Ryan Lennon.

Hipwell said: "It was a real positive day for everyone associated with the football club and I would like to say thanks to everyone who came along to support us.

"It was a brilliant feeling having everyone near the tunnel clapping us off at the end.

"After a poor performance last Saturday, I think the reaction of the lads has been first class this week.

"It was a typical Wisbech Town performance in terms of determination, fight and grit and I think that bodes well for the future.

"We had a very young side out there today, players in their twenties and teens and I thought they stepped up, as did the experienced players as well.

"It was never going to be easy because of the conditions and we probably created the better chances in the first half.

"It's our first away win of the season, first clean sheet and three points to the tally, which builds momentum.

"We had four players not here today so competition for places is rising and our standards are rising.

"In terms of inexperience we have in the squad, we are going to have bumps along the road where we don't perform all the time.

"People also need to remember that we came in a month into the new season so we had no time to do anything pre-season and work on the finer details so we are still work-in-progress."

Before Saturday's game, the club announced before the game that popular wideman Amir Ward had left the club.

"Amir has gone to Grantham and the way he has conducted himself has been impeccable," revealed Hipwell.

"We had a discussion and we are never going to stand in the way of a player if they want to play at a higher level.

"Amir has been a magnificent player for this football club and who knows he might be back one day if it doesn't work out for him.

"It is a big loss for us, but equally we have to focus on ourselves."

On Saturday, Wisbech travel to play second-from-bottom side Kimberley Miners Welfare.

Wisbech Town: Lakin, Perry-Burdett (Falco), Hawes, Nicholson, Mattless, Harris (Braham), Cavozzi (Arber), Williams (Zaluzinskis), Foster (Wilson), Allen, Lennon.

Attendance: 138.
