Fougo leaves Wisbech Wheelers to pursue professional dream

Tiago Fougo has left Wisbech Wheelers for Toucy in France to rejoin sponsored club Elite Restoration 89.

Elite had snapped him up after an impressive performance in his first continental road race but Covid put his plans on hold and he returned to Wisbech.

Wheelers are sad to lose him again but will avidly follow his progress towards a possible professional career.

Continental racing clubs of this calibre are used as testing grounds for new young riders and feed the best to the pro teams.

Teenage Wisbech Wheelers rider William Horspool has been busy this week.

The 13-year-old has been road racing at the Milton Keynes Bowl where he came in seventh, after driving the front of the race in the under 14 category.

At the opposite end of the age scale, Wisbech 70+ supervet Roger Sewell rode a strong 1.01.05 on Saturday at Farndon, Notts in the Veterans TT Association 25 mile event.

On the same day, Wisbech rider Neil Empson was joined by returning 40+ vet Jon Talbot near Cambridge in the Eastern Counties Cycling Association ‘25’ where they recorded 55.17 and 57.18 respectively.

Neil Empson also rode on the previous Wednesday in the King’s Lynn club ‘10’ and rounded the course in 23.16.
