Fast times at Peterborough, Norwich and Marham




Some 17 Fenland Running Club members competed in Race 3 of the Peterborough 5K Grand Prix Series hosted by Thorney Running Club.

Martin Jennings came in first for the men in a time of 17:23, 15th out of 347 finishers and hot on his heels was Andrew Plume in 16th place in a time of 17:26.

First Fenland lady home was Gemma Rose in sub-22 style in a time of 21:49 and a 20 second personal best.

Other personal bests (PB) were celebrated by Adrian Searle and Lucy Hicks.

On July 7 three Fenland runners successfully completed the 23rd edition of the Lord Mayor’s 5k City Centre Classic elite race in Norwich. The race is held on closed roads before crowds gather for the parade.

Runners who fail to reach the halfway mark inside 10 minutes are directed to retire from the race. Hot conditions prevailed but Martin Jennings led the charge, clocking 17.41 on the tough hilly course.

Shane Draper came in 18:40 swiftly followed by Sean Connolly in 18.47 and Bethan Everson in a personal best time of 18.57. The race continued its reputation as one of the best in the east of England, with a winning time of 14.22 recorded by Adam Visokay of Stockport Harriers and first lady Iona Lake of City of Norwich AC crossing the line in 16.34.

On Sunday, July 8, the hat-trick was completed with the Marham Flyers 10K and 1K Fun Run.

The 10K was a hot one for Sarah Gauvin on this fast flat route around RAF Marham’s airfield. Sarah’s son Henry Pittock smashed the 1K Fun Run, coming a fabulous third place overall in a time of 3:40.
