March Town Ladies go into lead on 32 seconds via Josie Turner but exit Cambs League Cup to Cambs Uni
Cambs League Cup Second Round – March Town Ladies 3 Cambs Uni 8
The Hares got off to a fantastic start, going into the lead on 32 seconds when Josie Turner's smart turn smashed the ball into the net.
The buoyancy did not last long with Cambridge University going 5-1 up by 19 minutes.
Every chance seemed to hit the net, including an unlucky own goal.
To their credit, the Hares fought back into the game, despite having a proverbial hill to climb, and showed grit and determination for the remainder of the game.
In the second half, Louise Barbour, returning from injury, scored an excellent half volley after a Claire Newton header; and Emma Searle scored direct from a free kick.
Cambridge University did reply with a further three second half goals to make the final score 3-8.
Hares manager Gary Davis said: "Full credit to Uni for taking their chances and we are disappointed with the result, but we will learn a lot from this game."
