March Town, Wisbech, Chatteris and Wimblington cricket sides in action over weekend
March Town Cricket Club defeated Histon in this week's Fenland Citizen feature game.
Aron Visser hit a century as March beat Histon by five wickets with an over to spare to notch their first Cambs & Hunts Whitings League Division One win of the season on Saturday.
Histon, the away team, posted 257-9 when their 50 overs closed. David Haslegrave grabbed 3-34, Phoenix Nightingale 1-62, Samuel Clarke 1-41, Visser 1-41 and Scott Welcher 3-26.
March replied with 259-5 from 49 overs to gather 25 points. Opener Adam Conyard compiled 44 with seven fours, Udana Ranathunga 17, Visser struck 103 from just 97 balls with five each of boundaries and sixes, and Brandon Phillips with 73 from 83 balls.
Visser and Phillips added 160 for the third wicket to set up victory, moving March into seventh place.
Meanwhile, March 2nds lost at Histon 2nds by 25 runs in CCA Senior League Division 1.
Histon set 222-8 in their full 45 overs.
March 2nds replied with 197 all out in the 43rd over.
Elsewhere, March 3rds gained 20 points after away side Longstanton Grasshoppers 2nds conceded their clash.
Wisbech Town 1st XI went top of the Whiting & Partners Division 1 table after collecting a maximum 30 points by defeating away basement side Newmarket by 107 runs.
Wisbech posted a competitive 258-8 from 50 overs. Gary Freear struck 16, Danny Haynes 11, Josh Bowers 24, Sam Albutt 56 with seven fours, Jamie Seabrook 53 with five boundaries and a six, Ryan Clark 32 and James Williams an unbeaten 27.
Albutt and Seabrook added 85 for the fourth wicket.
The hosts then dismissed Newmarket for 151 in 38.4 overs. George Gowler (2-19) removed the away openers cheaply while Kieran Haynes (2-40) trapped number three Maxford Pipe lbw for a duck to leave them 28 for 3.
Other wicket takers were Jonny Garner 1-20, Josh Porter 2-21 and Freear 2-23.
However, Wisbech 2nds lost at Godmanchester Town by 26 runs in Division 3 at The Parks.
Godmanchester collapsed from 81-0 and were all out for 145 in 32.2 overs.
Brodie Ellis bagged 2-40, Ian Bell 2-32, Joe Dunning 5-28 from nine overs and Tom Buck 1-4.
The Wisbech side lost wickets regularly and were 119 all out in 33.1 overs. Buck hit 35, Spencer Snowball 25 and Dunning 16.
Wisbech 4ths had better fortune as they beat visitors Wilburton 3rds by 107 runs in CCA Junior League 5 North.
Wisbech reached 229 from 39.3 overs.
Wilburton 3rds slid to 122 all out in 34.3 overs.
Chatteris are sixth in CCA Senior League Division 1, a point ahead of March 2nds, after losing at Needingworth by 72 runs.
Needingworth set a huge 303-6 in 45 overs, while Chatteris were 231 all out in the 42nd over.
Home side Chatteris 2nds defeated Over and Willingham by six wickets in CCA Junior League 2 North.
Over and Willingham were restricted to 113-9 from 40 overs. Matthew Hollis bagged 2-18, Gugan Kupendran 4-23 and Clive Welsman 1-20, all three from eight tight overs each, while David Cadwallender added 2-17.
Chatteris cruised to 115-4 in just 24.3 overs. Opening bat Ben Perry hit 12, Oli Bailey not out 37, Liam Boxall 21 and skipper Harry Matthews 26.
Fourth-placed Wimblington lost at St Ives Town & Warboys 3rds by four wickets in CCA Junior League 4 North.
Wimblington posted 138-9 in 40 overs and St Ives replied with 139-6 from 34.3 overs.
