Reed and Rider strikes not enough to prevent another defeat for Wisbech St Mary




Goals by Joe Reed and Grant Rider were not enough to stop Wisbech St Mary from going down to a sixth defeat in seven Cambs County League Premier Division games on Saturday.

The performance was an improvement on recent week and they dug deep at Foxton to recover from 2-0 down but then conceded again to lose the match 3-2.

After losing their first three games of the season, Wimblington made it four wins on the trot when they trounced Hundon 9-0 in Senior A - and they have scored 26 goals in those four games.

Goals came from Rory Parker (3), Alex Knowles (2), Billy Munns, Daniel Harradine, Martin Porter and Connor Mazurek. Knowles has now scored an amazing 300 goals for Wimblington.

In the same division, March Town Reserves went down 3-0 at Orwell. Manager Kieran Daplyn said: “The better side won on the day. We got opened up on two set pieces and Orwell were physically stronger in both boxes.”

Outwell Swifts go top of 1B with a 2-1 win at Great Paxton, Ben Longmuir and Adan-Jay Lewis scoring. Chatteris Town Reserves drew 0-0 at home to Huntingdon United.

March Town A, of 1B, were awarded a walkover at 1A outfit Melbourn in the Cambs Junior Cup after the home side were unable to raise a team. In the same competition, 2B side Wisbech St Mary Reserves won a 14-goal thriller 8-6 at home to 1B strugglers Benwick Athletic (Christchurch). Athletic’s goals came from Archie Cullum (2), Dillon Stevens (2), Lewis Harlow and Dayne Moore.

2B side Manea United are also through to the next round after thrashing Crusaders 2019 6-2, Matthew Kent getting a hat-trick, Josh Brittin a brace and Theodore Willis also on target.

Peterborough League Division One outfit Wisbech Town Reserves are through to the next round of the Cambs Junior Cup after winning 2-1 at Girton United, Leandro Borges and sub Ashley Tribe firing them through to the next round. Leverington Sports Reserves lost 3-0 at Litlington Athletic.

In the Cambs Lower Junior Cup, 3B leaders Wisbech St Mary Development A were awarded a walkover at 4C side Outwell Swifts Reserves. In an all-4C clash, March Academy won 4-2 at Stretham Reserves, Toby Conyard, Joshua Kirby and sub Ryan Powell among the goals.

But 4C side Wisbech Town Acorns crashed out, losing 4-2 at 3B side Isleham United Reserves, Emilio Mead and Derren Singleton netting. Chatteris Town A, from 4C, are through, however, beating 4B side Cambridge Ambassadors Reserves 7-6, Callum Wilkinson (2), Ethan Harrison, Lewis Jarrald, Luis Webb and sub Norton Spring netting.

Wisbech St Mary B beat Manea United Reserves 6-0 in 4C.

Leverington Sports lost 4-3 at home to Deeping Rangers Reserves in the Premier Division of the Peterborough League, Adam Conyard, Kieran Hamilton and Louise Garner netting for Sports.

Long Sutton Athletic are through to the next round of the Spalding Inter-Services Cup, beating Whaplode Drove Rovers 2-1, Max Seaman and Thierry Williams on target. However, the game between Division Two side Sutton Bridge United and Boston Athletic was abandoned.

In the same competition, all all Division Two clash saw Tydd win at home 2-0 against Crowland Town Reserves, with two goals from Kai Scott-Henson.

In Division Three, Long Sutton Athletic Reserves were beaten 10-1 at Netherton United A, sub Harvey Still scoring, and Leverington Sports A drew 3-3 at Whaplode Drove Rovers Reserves.

Anglian Combination Division Three North side Marshland Saints are through to the third round of the Cyril Ballyn Cup after beating Beccles Town Reserves 4-1, Callum Rogers grabbing a hat-trick and Jack Cropley netting.
