Wisbech St Mary plays host to annual youth tournament
Wisbech St Mary played host to a feast of football as the club hosted its annual youth tournament over the weekend.
The event - one of the biggest events of its kind in the country - attracted big numbers, as close to 400 teams from up and down the UK battled it out for glory over two days.
A feast of football was played out across 26 pitches, involving some 3,000 players and 100 referees.
Paul Albutt, one of the organising committee, said: "We probably had fewer teams than last season, as we went from 28 pitches down to 26 after losing a bit of space because of the 3G pitch.
"We were very pleased with how the tournament went and we've already received a lot of positive messages back from clubs.
"Having a tournament like this helps us to provide football for 300 children and adults at weekends.
"We've got a dedicated bunch of coaches and volunteers here at the club and they are buying into the ethos of what we are trying to do."
Wisbech St Mary under-14s were winners on the Sunday, while Wisbech St Mary Purple were runners-up in the under-12 section.
On Saturday, Wisbech St Mary Blacks were runners-up in the under-11s section and Chatteris Blue claimed the runners-up berth for the U11 girls.
