Three Counties Running Club take part in Dam Busters Commemoration 10k and Peterborough swim-run
A warm and sunny Sunday morning saw Three Counties Running Club members take part in the Dam Busters Commemoration 10k race.
The event was held at Marham, with runners racing around the flat tarmac RAF base.
This was the 80th anniversary, and all money raised by the 252 runners went to RAF Central Funds.
First home for the Fenland club was Michelle Brown in a time of 42:41.
She was followed in by Gary Bligh (42:42), Mark Mattless (42:52), Stuart Brown (49:02), Anne-Marie Mattless (1:02:18) and Melvin Green (1:02:41).
Elsewhere, Steve Clarke took part in a fantastic event at the 10k Mild Mustard Sprint Swimrun in Ferry Meadows, Peterborough.
The race consists of approximately 2km of open water swimming and 8km of mixed terrain running.
There are seven swim sections and eight run sections.
The longest run section is 2,100m and the longest swim section is 700m.
The participants found themselves running out of one river and back into another.
Swimming in trainers not only feels strange but can make it feel heavy going – especially when trying to run with shoes full of water, mud and weeds.
There were also the added extra challenges of climbing out of muddy river banks via cargo nets and ropes.
However, Steve had a fantastic time, finishing in 1:54:34 - knocking ten minutes off last year’s time of 2:04:55 .
