Wisbech skaters pick up a multitude of medals at the 2023 indoor British Championships
Representatives from Wisbech Inline Speed Skating Club picked up a multitude of medals at the 2023 indoor British Championships.
Hosted at Derby Rollerworld, in the Mini Girls category Danni-Stafford Allen won gold in all her distances to become the indoor Mini Girls champion.
In Pupil Boys, Kirby Barker won all three of his distances to take gold overall with Oscar Clarkson and Joseph Fitches also competing in the same category, both taking respectable finish positions at their first championship.
Leah Barker won silver in the Cadet Girls category, won her one lap sprint and won both her 500m and 1000m distances, taking two gold medals.
In Cadet boys, Alex Gray finished in bronze medal positions for all three of his race distances.
In Youth Boys, Taylor Barker started the weekend with a gold in the one lap sprint with Arthur Buckler following him on the podium with silver.
In the 500m Barker finished in the bronze medal position whilst Buckler crashed after rolling onto a cone that a fellow competitor had knocked onto the track but was able to salvage a fourth place finish.
In the long-distance race, Buckler claimed gold after a nervous start and Barker finished with a bronze.
Lucy McInerney won two bronze and one silver in her distances in the Senior Ladies whilst Tim Fitches claimed fifth overall in the Masters Men.
The club were able to put four relay teams in for the championships this year.
Clarkson raced with Fitches and finished fourth in the 2000m Pupil/Cadet category whilst Kirby Barker and Gray were disqualified for a change over mistake.
Lucy and Eve McInerney were able to continue a long running dominance in the relay competition, again taking gold medals after an exciting battle with a London team to seize victory.
Both Barker and Buckler have moved up to Youth boys this year, which allowed them to race with the Seniors and they proved they could cope in a hotly contested final, finishing with bronze, only a couple of seconds behind silver place finishers.
All fought hard and fair to achieve a very successful collection of medals, continuing to champion the Wisbech team and Skaters Rink, Walpole Highway.
The coaches have worked hard all through winter and now the team moves on to the upcoming outdoor race season.
