Fenland football round-up: Wisbech and March secure wins while Parson Drove see survival hopes dented by home defeat
Wisbech Town boosted their hopes of a mid-table finish in the Uhlsport United Counties League Premier Division North with a 2-1 victory over Belper Town this afternoon.
Rob Conyard gave the Fenmen took the lead from the penalty spot four minutes before the break at Fountain Fresh Park.
Amir Ward doubled the home side's lead midway through the second half and, although Archie Williams pulled a goal five back for Belper five minutes later, Wisbech held on to a precious three points.
Leon Mettam's side travel to Leicester Nirvana on Monday night (7.45pm) before completing their campaign with two home games in the space of three days at the end of the week.
The Fenmen host Deeping Rangers on Thursday night (7.45pm) and then entertain Eastwood CFC on Saturday (3pm).
In the Premier Division South, Craig Gillies was on target twice as March Town United made it four league wins on the bounce with a 2-1 success at Coventry South.
Gillies opened the scoring midway through the second half and made it 2-0 to the visitors with his second goal in the 85th minute.
Coventry replied through Ruari O'Boyle in stoppage time and their hopes of finishing above the Hares in the standings now look slim.
On Tuesday night, Ash Taylor's side travel to The Haydon Whitham Stadium as they take on Deeping Rangers in the semi-finals of the UCL Knockout Cup.
The Hares, who have guaranteed themselves a top-eight finish in the table, then host Desborough Town at home in their final league game of the season next Saturday (3pm).
