Wisbech Swimming Club retain Junior Fenland League title following success in the ‘A’ final in Whittlesey




Wisbech Swimming Club have retained their Junior Fenland League title following success in the ‘A’ final held at the Manor Leisure Centre in Whittlesey.

Going into the final with a 100% record from the previous galas, Wisbech found themselves up against City of Peterborough A, West Norfolk and St Ives.

On the night, Wisbech came out on top with 170 points – which at the end of the night gave them a 19-point winning margin.

The swimmers certainly saved their best for the final, achieving an incredible 34 personal best times from the 44 races and breaking 16 cut-off times.

There were also 15 first place finishes on the night for Jacob Hicks (2), Harrison Otter (2), Holly Smith (2), Esmai Smith, Lilly Wright, Isabella Burton, Arabella Tysterman, Shay Connolly, Oscar Muller, Alicija-Mai Gowler, Kevin Sorokin and Race Elmer.

Success on the night meant they topped the league table for the season, maintaining their 100% record and being crowned JFL league winners for the fourth time in five years.

Team captains Jake Trundle and Isabella Burton were presented with the winners’ shield.

Their JFL success came a week after the team competed in the Senior Fenland League final at Newmarket.

Up against Ely, March, St Ives, St Neots and Mildenhall – and with an extremely young team for this event – they finished in a very respectable fourth place, accumulating 146 points on the night.

They weren’t fazed by the level of competition, achieving 20 personal best times – and there were first place finishes for Oscar Muller (2) and Jensen Stevens.
