Growing Acorns mark silver birthday celebrations
Wisbech Town Acorns FC marked their 25th anniversary.
The club has come a long way since it was formed by a small group of lads in Wisbech Park knocking a ball about with the club’s founder Mr Alan Knight and his sons in 1993 to the position it is in today where Acorns have six children’s sides.
The younger children play 6. 7 and 9 a side at Barton Road, Wisbech; while two adult teams play at Gorefield community playing field along with the older children.
The club has been very lucky to have the support of Mr Ashley Maile, MD of PEME Asset Care Partners who have, by their sponsorship, enabled Acorns to commission a limited edition coin which was handed out to the children and coaches on the day.
It was hoped that broadcaster Jake Humphrey, whose uncle Peter Humphrey is on the playing field committee, from BT Sport could attend but he was on FA Cup final duty.
Instead the Mayor of Wisbech, Coun Peter Human, attended and handed out trophies.
