Wisbech Town FC re-sign midfielder Murphy

Wisbech Town FC boss Dick Creasey believes Sam Murphy has the potential to go on and become one of the best midfielders in the Chromasports United Counties League.

Murphy, 23, has returned to the club after a four-year absence following a move from Step 4 outfit Spalding United.

A delighted Creasey said: “Sam has got a great physique, an excellent engine and is a box-to-box player.

“I think he can go on and be one of the best midfielders in the league.

“Adam Millson and him will compliment each other well, along with Luke Kennedy.”

The youngster had been set to sign for Evo-Stik Northern Premier Division side Stamford AFC, but work commitments saw him remain closer to home.

“Sam is a player I’ve been chasing all summer,” admitted Creasey.

“I thought we’d missed out on getting him, but sometimes in football things go in your favour.

“Stamford getting a reprieve and staying in the Northern Premier League has helped us as he didn’t want all the extra travelling with his work commitments.

“He’s just had an excellent season with Spalding and the fact that Graham (Drury) wanted to take him to a Step 3 club shows that the lad has got ability.”

Creasey added: “People say that we don’t use local lads enough but now we’ve a nucleus of local players in our squad.

“We’ve brought two Wisbech boys in now – Sam and Jack (Friend) – which is really good for the club.

“With players like Paul Cousins and Stuart Cobb staying we’ve got a real local core to the squad.”

Also putting pen-to-paper for the Fenmen is former Boston United fledgling Harry Limb.

The striker, 19, came close to breaking into the Pilgrims’ first team after signing first team forms on his 16th birthday in August last year.

But Boston United boss Dennis Greene dual-registered Limb with Holbeach United in the UCL and the youngster later signed for Evo-Stik NPL Division One South side Loughborough Dynamo.

“Harry’s a young, up-and-coming talent who was doing well in the youth sector at Boston,” Creasey added.

“He’s a very hungry player and still has a lot to learn but is a good addition to our squad.

“My assistant Glen Maddison has worked with Harry and has been instrumentual in helping bring him in.”

Creasey revealed that he is also chasing a utility player while frontman Michael Frew has also been offered a deal to stay at the Elgood’s Stadium.
