Wisbech veterans triumph in opening game of the season at Stamford
Wisbech Vets travelled to Stamford Vets for their first run out of the season in an intense fixture under the Friday night lights.
The quick ball of Wisbech and excellent handling saw the visitors score first with Steven Priest adding the extras.
Strong carries from Nigel Coleman and Will Hall ensured Wisbech remained on the front foot but strong tackling from Stamford kept them out.
Clever play from centre Phil Martell at the back of the ruck saw him burst away for a try before Stamford replied.
Experienced second row Ben Chapman with partner in crime skipper Greg Brownlow rolled back the years to ensure Wisbech could respond to Stamford.
Phil Martell broke again an audacious cheeky dummy to score again.
Wisbech began to pull away and after a strong battle between the two sides, Wisbech went on to secure a 40-5 win.
With several players unavailable and a couple of injuries, credit to skipper Greg Brownlow for getting this squad out.
The Vets will next be in action when they host Stamford for the return fixture at home on December 7.
