Wisbech Players bring Ian Hislop play to the stage
If you’re ready for an uplifting night of laughter, make a note of Wisbech Players’ next production, which takes to the stage next week.
When fading Hollywood star Jefferson Steel arrives in England to play King Lear at Stratford, he gets a shock.
He finds out that he isn’t going to be treading the boards in the birthplace of the Bard, but will be sharing the stage with a local amateur dramatic society in a sleepy Suffolk village called Stratford St John.
Jefferson’s monstrous ego, vanity and insecurity are tested to the limit by the group of passionate amateur thespians fighting to save their theatre from closure.
The Wisbech Players’ latest production, called A Bunch of Amateurs, written by Ian Hislop and Nick Newman, promises audiences an evening full of laughs.
With a cast of seven, the play will be directed by Yvonne Kniveton and runs from Tuesday, November 5, to Saturday, November 9, at the Angles Theatre in Wisbech.
Tickets are available online or from the theatre box office on 01945 474447.
