Citizen readers are being asked for their help to re-home the pets of a terminally-ill cancer patient.

Living in a predominantly rural area, we have all undoubtedly experienced the frustrations associated with receiving a poor mobile signal. Some of us can find it impossible to make or receive calls in some blackspot areas, let alone surf the web.

This year, in response to a public poll, Wisbech Town Council invested in a new and exciting lighting scheme for the town.

Students at Wisbech’s Thomas Clarkson Academy got a taste of the world of work at a careers convention. Representatives from colleges and universities attended, as well as businesses including Anglian Water, British Sugar, Nestle Purina, The Light cinema, holiday companies, pharmaceutical companies and the construction industry. Students from Year 8 went along for inspiration to help in choosing their options next year while years 11, 12 and 13 were able to find out about future careers. Paul Griffiths, TCA’s Careers, Education, Information, Advice and Guidance co-ordinator said: “It was a great success and we formed some good partnerships with local businesses. “Our students got some great ideas and guidance for their futures.”

A Fenland Second World War hero who took part in a daring mission to remove vital German radar components has been honoured with a memorial.

A generous mother and daughter will be giving up part of their Christmas Day to run a soup kitchen for the needy in Wisbech.

Youngsters at an Outwell nursery will soon be able to have fun on new outdoor equipment. Beaupre Under 5s Centre has received a cheque for £189.05 from the village’s Costcutter branch. Chairman of the centre’s committee Michaela Culvert has thanked the shop for the donation. She said: “This means a great deal as we have just revamped our garden so the money we have received will buy new equipment. We are over the moon to be able to do this.”

The Rotary Club of March has raised £2,500 for Magpas with its big meal raffle. More than 25 hotels, restaurants and takeaways supported the fundraiser, which culminated in the draw at March Christmas Market on December 7. The 31 wining raffle tickets were drawn by Radio Cambridgeshire presenter Johnny Dee. Rotarians have thanked everyone who has supported the raffle.

Level 3 Childcare students have been planning and delivering the 45 minute Rhyme and Story Time Sessions, which include songs and crafts, at the Ely Place library. The programme, which is running until July 2015, involves 15 students from the course, working in weekly rotation to deliver the workshops.
