Appeal to help Manea-based animal rescue shelter

A fundraising page has been launched to help a local man improve his animal rescue shelter.

Michael Amps, of Fodder Fen, Manea, has been rescuing animals locally after moving to the village over a year ago.

He takes in any animal or bird in distress, which has either been abandoned or injured in some way, nurses them back to health either so they can be released back into the wild or rehomed.

Michael has turned the double garage at his home into a hospital area and has also built a large aviary for the many wild birds he helps on the road to recovery.

But the aviary is in need of a massive refurbishment including the installation of a concrete floor to stop rats and other predators getting in, as well as making it more comfortable as it is currently really muddy because of all the rainfall.

The hospital area is also being updated and so Michael has launched both an Amazon wishlist for items he needs and also, a Gofundme page with the help of his neighbour Samantha Beresford, who has helps out at the shelter when needed.

She said: "Michael is totally dedicated to helping any animal in need - he never turns one away - and he funds it all out of his own pocket.

"The aviary cost hundreds of pounds to build, but it really needs a concrete floor to keep the birds and other animals inside safe from predators and it is likely to cost around £3,000 to get it done.

"The wishlist is for things like medicine and food which he needs and gets through quick quickly with all the animals he has in his care.

"If we all work together and donate whatever we can it would be a massive help and less strain on Mike."
