A former Fenland woman who emigrated to Australia 43 years ago has come back to her roots this month to publicise a new book about her childhood. Madeleine Pizzuti, nee Missin, visited her old school, Leverington Academy, with her debut book, Tell Me A Story, about her childhood memories growing up in the Fens.

Madeleine, 62, moved to Australia when she was 18 and lives in Sydney, where she works for the Catholic Church. She said: “This book is not merely a memoir, but also a means of saying ‘thank you’ to those who were part of my childhood.” She will also be publicising her book at Wisbech Library tomorrow. • Madeleine Pizzuti pictured with pupils, from left, Freya, Ivy, and Lucas.
