Banned Wisbech driver faces another ban after court appearance
A disqualified driver from Wisbech who took his grandmother’s car without her permission has been
banned again.
It was three months after Joseph Bibby had been disqualified for a year that his latest offences took
place on Elm High Road on October 22.
Victoria Bastock, prosecuting at Lynn Magistrates’ Court on Thursday, said: “Police officers were
concerned about the manner of driving – he appeared to be at excess speed.”
When Bibby was pulled over he admitted that he was disqualified. He was banned on July 4 for 12
months for drug driving.
On Thursday, he pleaded guilty to driving while disqualified and having no insurance.
In mitigation, solicitor Tiffany Meredith said: “He says that he had received a call from a friend saying
that he was unwell. It was 10am. The friend was waiting to go to hospital and feared that he had
meningitis. Mr Bibby took the decision to take his grandmother’s car. He didn’t have permission.”
Miss Meredith said Bibby lost his job as a builder and bricklayer when he lost his licence.
The 22-year-old, of Beechwood Road, was disqualified for 11 months (effectively a three-month
extension), fined £240 and told to pay £85 costs and £32 victim surcharge.
