Call for Wisbech Town Council to appoint specialist consultant to help in fight against mega incinerator plans

A lead campaigner in the fight to stop a mega incinerator being built in Wisbech has called on the town council to appoint specialist consultants to help in the battle.

Virgina Bucknor, one of the heads of the Wisbech Without Incineration (WisWIN) has written to the town council to suggest it employs a specialist consultant to deal with the highways and transport aspect of MVV Environment Ltd.

In her submission to tonight's (Monday) meeting of the council Mrs Bucknor said: "In the Scoping document, the Planning Inspectorate has agreed to exclude many of the concerns Wisbech residents have raised, such as air pollution. However the Inspectorate has recognised the importance of highways and transport and therefore key to presenting the case for refusal.

"I would like to propose that Wisbech Town Council engage a specialist Consultant to deal with this specific area on behalf of Wisbech residents.

"With their enormous expertise, I have written to the UKWIN organisation to ask if they could recommend such a Highways/ Transport consultant specialist.

"This Council could ask both Fenland and County council to contribute towards the consultant’s costs. This would demonstrate their continued support and highlight to the community, the Planning Inspectorate and MVV, that we are all united against this proposal."

She concluded: "Finally, we have posters of different sizes which businesses and residents all around Wisbech have erected to show their support for the campaign against this dreadful proposal.

"Would the town council like to erect a banner on behalf of the community to provide a visual display of their commitment against the incinerator? You are welcome to have one. A

"Also would those councillors who have businesses or premises with high visibility in Wisbech, also like to receive posters to show support?"

The suggestion for the specialist consultant, which was put to the council as part of the public open forum, was not discussed.

However, Councillor Ben Prest, chairman of the councils anti-incinerator working party, promised to give a written response.
