March community comes together as care home residents mark VE Day
A heartwarming partnership between the Aria Court Care Home and March Rotary Club allowed residents to enjoy a joyous celebration in honour of VE Day.
Residents and staff at the home were treated to an unforgettable afternoon tea hosted by the Rotary Club, marking the beginning of what both groups hope will be a long-lasting relationship.
The care home’s garden was transformed for the occasion, decked out in Union Jack bunting and flags, creating a festive atmosphere that brought smiles all round.
The day began with a reflective church service, honouring the sacrifices of wartime veterans and current service personnel.
While the original idea wasn’t timed specifically around VE Day, the proximity to the anniversary made it a fitting occasion to celebrate community, history, and remembrance.
The March Rotary Club generously funded the event and added several special touches, including live music arranged through 20Twenty Productions and a nostalgic display of vintage cars.
Residents were thrilled by the entertainment and the opportunity to admire the classic vehicles up close.
Amber Christou, customer relationship manager at Aria Court, expressed her appreciation, saying: “We were delighted to hold this event with the Rotary Club – it was a great day here at Aria Court, which our residents loved.
"We are always keen to welcome new groups and visitors to our home and look forward to doing more with the Rotary Club in the near future.”
The success of the VE Day celebration has paved the way for future collaborations between Aria Court and the Rotary Club.
Early ideas include shared fundraising efforts, social visits, and using the care home’s café for informal community gatherings.
While the afternoon tea was a moment to remember the past, it also marked a hopeful new chapter for the community.
