Cor blimey what a 'biggun' Chatteris allotment holder hopes his pumpkin is the region's biggest
Last year John Richardson’s pumpkin was the second largest grown in East Anglia and raised hundreds of pounds for Children In Need.
This year’s pumpkin is even larger and heavier and Mr Richardson will know tomorrow (Saturday) whether it is the largest in the East when he enters it in the Soham Pumpkin Show.
Mr Richardson has nurtured the pumpkin throughout the long hot summer and will be entering it in the Chatteris Allotment Association’s Pumpkin and Produce Show next Saturday (6) at the Honeysome Road Allotments at 10am. Everyone is welcome to pop along and see the pumpkin and other large vegetables grown by the allotment holders.
The pumpkin will also be on display at the Friday market in Chatteris on Friday (5) and outside Poundstretchers over that weekend when Mr Richardson and fellow Allotment Association members will be collecting money for the British Heart Foundation and Doddington School Academy in Kenya.
