Disqualified driver from Rings End hopes to keep ‘nose clean’ after being spotted behind wheel

A disqualified driver caught behind the wheel told magistrates he hopes he can keep his ‘nose clean’ in the future.

Self-confessed recovering alcoholic Leon Robinson, of Rings End, was banned from the roads when police spotted his Ford Galaxy on the A16 at Spalding at 11am on February 6 - a mistake which cost him more than £400.

The 27-year-old stay-at-home dad pleaded guilty to driving whilst disqualified and driving without insurance when he appeared at Boston Magistrates’ Court on Wednesday (February 26) - the day his initial ban was due to end.

“Police stopped the defendant after information he may be disqualified from driving,” prosecutor Lottie Tyler explained.

“He told police he didn’t have a driving licence. He was disqualified until today.”

Robinson had received his initial 20-month ban for drink driving, the court was told.

Representing himself, the defendant said: “I’m really sorry. I hope I can keep my nose clean.”

Robinson, of Goosetree Road, Rings End, told the court he was in recovery for his alcohol addiction and was no-longer working after suffering PTSD after being the victim of an attack.

Magistrates disqualified him from driving for a further four months and fined him £120 for driving whilst disqualified and a further £120 for driving without insurance.

He must also pay a £96 victim surcharge and £85 costs.
