Fenland couple doing their bit to help horse breed that is rarer than Giant Pandas

A Fenland couple who specialise in rearing rare breed horses are celebrating after the arrival of a new foal.

Susie Adams and Mick Garwell, of Walton Highway, are thrilled with the arrival of Walton Pride Benjamin, who is a Suffolk Punch colt, who was born last month to proud mum Colony Zeta.

Suffolk Punch horses are currently on the endangered species by the Rare Breeds Survival Trust and there are reportedly less than 500 registered in the UK and fewer than 72 breeding mares - this makes the Suffolk Punch rarer than the Giant Panda.

Susie said: "Because the Suffolk is on the endangered list we feel we are doing our bit to help the breed."

The couple are members of the Suffolk Horse Society and they show their horses at the local and county shows.

Susie added: "Mare and foal are doing really well."
