Fenland firm has 25 jobs up for grabs for the 'right people'
A Chatteris science firm is looking to recruit up to 25 new members of staff and is holding a special open day to highlight the job opportunities.
ALS, which has laboratory facilities in both Chatteris and Ely, as well as across the country, is hoping to encourage more local people to join them.
Salvatore Mungo, who looks after the company's recruitment, explained the firm is looking for the "right" people and the emphasis is on ensuring individuals are right for the job and the company rather than focussing on qualifications.
The majority of the jobs on offer are laboratory technicians and are at the Chatteris site, which is off Medcalf Way adjacent to the Apple Green garage.
Salvatore said: "These are less flamboyant roles and involve working in our labs preparing samples. We work largely for the food industry and among other things look at allergens, contaminants and nutritional values.
"We do not use animals and don't do animal testing, although we do sometimes look at pet food.
"The salary is £18,533 per year for a lab technician and does not require qualifications, full training will be given and there is an opportunity for progression within the company, but like all things it is down to what individual wants.
"We are more interested in finding the right people to fill these roles, those we feel will fit in well with our team. We have up to 150 people working on the Chatteris site at any one time and they range in age from 18 up to the more mature.
"We would consider school leavers who have just completed their GCSEs and looking for a job opportunity rather than wanting to go on to further education. The roles would also suit those who are deferring going to university either because of the pandemic or because they want a break from education.
"The open day on September 7 runs from 10am to 6pm and people interested can just walk in and have a look around, and chat to us about what the work entails. We will also be offering people on the spot interviews.
"We also have vacancies at our Ely site, but these are largely more technical analyst roles and we are also looking for a senior account manager to join our sales team.
"We will have an ice cream van on site on the open day for visitors to enjoy and we hope to see as many people as possible come through our doors.
"As I said it is all about the person and the attitude they have, if people want to submit their CVs in advance of the day they can, but it is not essential to do that."
