Long Sutton's Christmas event attracted hundreds
The weather might have been cold but the atmosphere was warm with festive cheer as Long Sutton celebrated Christmas.
An estimated 300 people were not deterred by the cold weather and fog from going to the town’s Market Place and St Mary’s Church for the festive event on Sunday.
Long Sutton Parish Council with help from people across the town put on the incredibly popular event.
Parish council chairman Coun John Clarey was delighted with the event.
He said: “It was a very successful afternoon even with the cold weather.
“Everyone got into the Christmas spirit.
“It was a lovely cold and cheerful afternoon.”
Unfortunately, the fair owners were forced to cancel their appearance due to the cold weather.
But that did not stop the fun.
Father and Mrs Christmas made a grand entrance to the fair by arriving in the back of a Long Sutton fire engine.
After making their way to the grotto, Santa listened to the festive wishes of 200 children.
They were given a selection box, donated by the parish council, along with an orange.
Coun Clarey said: “I would like to thank Michael Booth, from Long Sutton Market, who donated the oranges for the children.”
Families and friends enjoy browsing around a total of 11 stalls which had been set up at the event.
Cards, cakes and holly wreaths were among the festive items on sale along with table decorations.
Spalding Brass Band also added to the festive atmosphere with a performance of Christmas carols.
Coun Clarey also thanked Long Sutton’s Army Cadet unit.
He said: “There were around 20 cadets present and they were very helpful in their various duties.
“I would also like to thank the fire service.”
