Plea for Benwick community to come together to help terminally ill mum and her family
Staff at a village shop have launched a Gofundme appeal for a young mum and her son after she was diagnosed with a terminal brain tumour.
Sian Portass, manager at the Spar shop in Benwick and all the staff, have come together to set up the appeal for Stacey Mitchell and her son Oscar to help in whatever way is needed.
Stacey tells her story in her own words on the Gofundme page. She said: "It's with a heavy heart and utter devastation that I let everyone I know that after a short stay in hospital it was confirmed my cancer has returned. This time around it is terminal and is in the form of a brain tumour.
"I have treatment options but none that will cure me. We aren't quite sure how long I have but I plan to make the most of what I do spending it with my loved ones.
"For all who know my boy keep him close in your thoughts and don't be afraid to cuddle him and tell him how amazing he is. His world has changed forever.
"Understandably this is going to be heartbreaking for anyone reading it, but know I hold you all dear in one way or another and hope that this year you love harder than ever before as tomorrow is never promised."
Sian said: "We know Stacey and Oscar because they come in the shop. When we heard the awful news we felt we had to do something. She is such a lovely lady.
"Hopefully we can come together as a community and raise as much money for this incredible lady, her son and her family at this uncertain time
"Stacey is such a strong and brave woman, she recently created a Gofundme page to go towards a cancer charity that is helping her in hope to raise as much money as possible.
"Their world really has changed forever and we want to come together and raise money personally for Stacey and her family to help in whatever way we can, especially for her boy.
"Stacey wants to get her story out to show people it really can happen to anybody and to hold on to your loved ones tight and live for today.
"Please, please help us come together and raise money for this incredible woman and her family."
