Winter Wonderland fun included ponies, snow and Santa at Wisbech care home
A Fenland care open its doors the the local community and invited them to join in with a Winter Wonderland of fun just in time for Christmas.
The event at Orchard House in Wisbech saw the home's garden turned into a wonderland that included fake snow and Santa's workshop.
The home itself was also given a festive feel with loads of decorations as the residents and visitors enjoyed the fun which included a visit from some petting animals which including rabbits, Guinea pigs, goats and mischievous dog and event a Shetland pony, who even ventured into residents' rooms where necessary.
There was a letter writing area for children to write to Santa and they got to post them in our post box.
Families were able to have the opportunity of having a family Christmas photo with a wintery backdrop which included a sleigh in front of them.
There was hot chocolate with cream and marshmallows, home made mince pies and a wide selection of biscuits, that the dog took a liking to.
Local students also visited and did some face painting and glitter tattoos.
There was also a raffle with some very generous prizes, all the money raised is going to support the survivors of domestic violence.
Wisbech mayor Susan Wallwork went along too join the fun and said: "It was wonderful what you have done for everyone and how much effort you have put in to make it an experience for everyone to remember."
Sarah Watson the home manager said “ This was an amazing event to hold at the home and all the people who live here enjoyed welcoming the community to join them. The support we were shown by the mayor, the community and our residents and their families was overwhelming. Our team has worked incredibly hard to put this all together for everyone to enjoy and the smiles and laughter throughout the home was heart-warming.
"Little Owls nursery visit us regularly and the children really enjoy coming to visit and so do the staff. All the children who visited us were given a little Christmas gift to take home, a knitted hat or stocking with sweets in that they can hang on their Christmas trees.
Claire (a resident at the home) said: "It was so nice to see all the animals and watch the children playing in the snow. It reminds me of years ago when I was younger and playing in the snow.”
One of the children who visited said: "It was brilliant to touch the pony and have my face painted. I liked having hot chocolate with the cream. I hope Santa gets my letter.”
Miranda Robinson lifestyle lead added: “ It was a lot of incredible hard work by staff but was worth every bit of it. The smiles and laughter were infectious throughout the day by everyone.”
