Wisbech school where lessons are fun is rated 'Good' by Ofsted
A school where pupils look forward to their lessons is celebrating its latest Ofsted inspection after being rated 'Good' in all areas.
Nene Infant and Nursery School in Wisbech was previously rated 'requires improvement' when it was inspected in 2019 so the latest result was even more welcome.
The inspectors visited the school in Norwich Road over two days in September they spent time talking to pupils and staff and the children told hem their lessons are fun and the teachers care for them.
The report published this week said the school is viewed as being at the heart of the community.
Staff have created a nurturing environment that helps pupils feel safe and valued and that bullying is very rare and dealt with quickly if it does happen.
The report continued: "Leaders have designed a curriculum for all subjects that maps out what pupils should know and remember. Delivery of the curriculum includes opportunities for pupils to revisit previous learning.
"Children in the nursery get off to an excellent start. Leaders have developed a wellconsidered curriculum with a strong focus on the development of early language and communication skills.
"Throughout the whole school, reading is a priority. There has been a significant investment of time and money in resources and books. As a result, pupils love to read. Pupils say they enjoy the class books that are read to them daily. Phonics is consistently well taught."
Children with Special Educational Needs and Disabilities are also well supported and learn well as teachers adapt the lessons and additional staff help pupils take part in the full range of the curriculum.
The curriculum includes challenging issues like the conflict in Ukraine and the report said: " Pupils are prepared well for life in modern Britain and have a good understanding of the importance of democracy. Pupils develop high levels of tolerance, embracing different cultures."
There was praise for the school's leaders who the report said constantly strive to get better and adds: 2As a result, there have been rapid improvements since the previous inspection."
Staff told inspectors the school is improving and they feel valued by the school leaders and the school community as a result morale is high.
However, the report did find one area where the school needs to improve and that is teachers do not always implement the curriculum as the leaders intend and this results in pupils not being able to remember the content as well as in other lessons.
The inspectors recommended additional training in these areas followed by checks to ensure it is having the desired impact.
Sam Miller, executive principal, said "We are all delighted with our recent 'Good' grading in all areas from our Ofsted inspection. The staff work incredibly hard to ensure our children have the best start to their education and we are so proud of all our children and families."
