Roger Phillips takes Marshland St James Buttonhole Lake tournament qualifier opening round
Buttonhole Lake saw the start of their tournament.
There are 20 qualifiers and the winning angler from each will take their place in September’s two-day final. Up for grabs is a share of the £5,000 prize.
The match ended in a close finish, with Roger Phillips taking the winning spot with 70 lbs 12oz on peg 4.
Runner-up was Martyn Freeman on peg 20 weighing in 66lbs 9oz; he went 16 metres on the pole to the corner of the island. Section 1 winner was the ever-improving Aaron Callaby (pictured), who is in a rich vein of form.
Other section winners were: Ray Cook peg 3; Andy Kelk peg 18; Steve Poole peg 5.
