Birthday boy Andrew Kilby celebrates at Tydd Gote AC Wednesday Open at Main Road with tench in a feeding frenzy

There was an outstanding catch for birthday boy Andrew Kilby (pictured) at the Tydd Gote AC Wednesday Open at Main Road when he found the tench in a feeding frenzy.

After a slow start at his peg 5, Andrew latched into a tench on his short line and gambling the better fish were in his swim decided to feed worm and caster at 11m.

This was an inspired move as tench after tench came to his worm, caster and red maggot hookbaits with Andrew transferring 24 of them between 3lb and 6lb into his waiting net.

To top things off, his careful feeding also enticed two big bream in the last half hour to give him a superb 103lb 3oz weight and a clear and deserved victory. Don Green took the runners-up spot with a hemp and tares caught bag of good roach for 11lb 14oz with John Taylor third on 9lb 3oz and Dennis Houghton fourth with 7lb 10oz. What a fantastic water the North Level can be.

Sunday club match at Main Road: 1 Pete Emery 8lb 6oz; 2 Archie Greenwood 8lb 5oz; 3 Ian Benton 4lb 6oz.
