Unbeaten March secure Eastern Counties Greene King Division One West title at home to St Ives

March Bears coach Kris Jones heaped praise on his players after seeing them wrap up the league title on Saturday with three games to spare.

The Bears remain unbeaten and that record never looked like being overturned as they ran out resounding 47-6 winners over St Ives, despite missing several players through injury and other commitments.

A delighted Jones said: "I am incredibly proud of every player who has played this season.

"We have achieved something truly special and we want that to continue with remaining undefeated for the rest of the season, we look forward to travelling to Cantabs in two weeks."

Repeated pressure from the Bears eventually took its toll as Jonny Larham crashed over for the first try and Sam Howat added the conversion.

The Bears were only able to add one more try before the interval through Callum Campbell, with Howat again adding the extras.

Just before the break, St Ives kicked a penalty to make the score 14-3 in the home side's favour.

A quick start to the second half saw Ben Pyle and Campbell add further tries, both of which were converted by Howat, as the Bears set their stall out.

A debut try for Roman Kisilovs followed before Lee Kupyn got in on the act. Both tries were converted.

George Howat was yellow-carded for a scrum infringement and eight minutes later his twin brother Sam followed him into the bin after losing an argument with the referee

But the Bears had the final say as Stacey Mould came on as a late substitute to add the final try of the game.
