Chatteris 2nd close in on top place after huge win at Wisbech 4th
Chatteris 2nd are just two points from the top of the Cambs & Hunts Premier League Junior Five North after a massive 295-run win at Wisbech 4th, who are now bottom of the table.
In our featured match, Chatteris elected to bat and made an impressive 318-4 from 40 overs. Top scorer was opener Liam Boxall with 124, Daniel Lynch made 92 not out, and other opener Harry Matthews 41. Dilan Kant took 2-60 from eight, and there was a wicket each for Oliver Didwell and Jake Bowering.
After their first four batsmen managed just 19 runs between them, things went from bad to worse for the home team, with the next seven batsmen failing to score at all as they were bowled out for a meagre 23 from 14.3 overs.
Top bowler was Jago Pearson with wonderful figures of 7-6 from seven overs, with Andrew Wool taking 1-14 from 7.3 and two wickets lost to run outs.
Wisbech Town came agonisingly close to victory at Cambridge St Giles but had to settle for a draw, which leaves them in sixth place in Division One after six matches.
After electing to bat, the visitors made 249-9 declared from 53.4 overs. Top scorer was Danny Haynes with 62 from 111 balls, including five fours.
Haynes put on 67 for the first wicket with Shalin Navishka De Mel, who registered another short but explosive innings, hitting 45 from 29 balls, with five fours and two sixes before being bowled.
Coming in at 136-3, the evergreen Gary Freear hit 58 from 65 balls, including eight fours and a six, and Sam Albutt scored 36, wicket keeper Josh Bowers 14 and captain James Williams 12.
In reply, Jonny Garner took an early wicket, but St Giles then put on 59 for the second wicket and 92 for the fifth wicket before Kunal Dabas fell to Josh Porter for 106, leaving the score at 188-5.
The next four wickets fell for just ten runs, but the home side managed to stay put with their final score 202-9 from 56 overs.
Porter took 3-42 off 14.2, Joe Dunning 2-36 from eight, Freear 2-43 from 10, with a wicket each for Garner and De Mel.
March Town stay top of Division Three after their fifth victory in five matches, winning by seven wickets at Ufford Park.
The home side decided to bat and were bowled out for 88 in only 29.2 overs, Sam Robinson taking 3-7 from six, Callum Young 3-25 from nine, Kian Pooley 2-9 from 1.2 and Shae Pooley 2-26 from nine.
In reply, a first wicket partnership of 41 between player-coach Mark Estall (28, with four fours and a six) and Adam Conyard (22 and four fours) helped March on the way to reaching 93 for 3 off just 15.4 overs. Sam Robinson also scored 17, and Toby Nulty was 14 not out.
Also topping their table are Chatteris, who stay in the Senior League Division Two top spot after a 97-run home win over Wilbrahams. After being asked to bat, the home side made 239-5 from 45 overs, veteran Peter Munns scoring 84 not out, opener Steve Bishop 52, captain Ben Hollis 21, Anthony Bamford 19, Archie Palmer 18 not out and wicket keeper Charlie Munns 13.
They then bowled out the visitors for 142 from 38.2 overs, Peter Munns rounding off a great all-round performance by taking 3-23 from four overs, Shimron Thomas 3-33 from nine, Archie Palmer 2-14 from 3.2, with Anthony Palmer and Billy Munns getting a wicket each.
In the same division, Wisbech 2nd went down by 110 runs at Cottenham. After electing to bat, the home side registered 284-6 from 45 overs, Dixon George the best visiting bowler with 2-44 from nine. There was a wicket each for Karthic Sivakumar, Oliver Overland, Stuart Barker and Brodie Ellis.
In reply, only three Wisbech batsmen offered resistance as the visitors tumbled to 174 all out from 42 overs, Chris Clark hitting 59, opener Matthew Gill 41 and George 25. The defeat leaves Wisbech second from bottom.
In Junior Four North, Wimblington stay top despite a 58-run derby defeat at March 2nd. After electing to bat, the home side were 136 all out from 32.4 overs, acting captain Stuart Mills scoring five fours in his 54, opener Robert Moden hitting seven fours as he reached 48 and Kammari Suryaprakash the only other player to reach double figures, making 12.
Pick of the Wimblington bowlers was Steve Coe with 4-25 from six, Kyle Butler took 2-18 from four, Jason Bullman 2-22 from 4.4, and there was a wicket each for Leon Walker and Poppy Cole.
Wimblington made the worst possible start to the run chase, losing their first three batsmen for ducks. Two other batters were dismissed without bothering the scorers, and only Bullman with an undefeated 23 and Matthew Day and Walker, both with 17, reached double figures as the visitors were 78 all out from 31 overs.
Mark Deas took 3-25 from eight, Phoenix Nightingale 2-2 from five, Tejas Madivada 2-12 from three, Charlie Bradshaw 2-17 from eight and Ollie Ashby 1-14 from five.
Wisbech 3rd were beaten by seven wickets at City of Ely 3rd in the same division. The visitors elected to bat and made 209-8 from 40 overs, opener Archie Grange-Hall hitting three sixes and ten fours as he made 67.
Captain Mark Buttriss hit three sixes and seven fours as he made an undefeated 61, other opener Colin Freear made 19 and Tom Freear 13. In reply, Ely comfortably reached 210-3 from 27.4 overs, Oscar Smithee and Colin Freear each getting a wicket.
Next Saturday, Wisbech entertain Old Leysians, March are away at Barnack, Chatteris travel to Linton Village, Wisbech 2nd are at Telugu Association of Cambridge, March 2nd are at home to Longstanton Grasshoppers 2nd, Wisbech 3rd host Sutton 2nd, Chatteris 2nd entertain Cottenham 2nd and Wisbech 4th travel to play Over and Willingham 2nd.
