Local sports stars were involved in the Chatteris Town FC ‘Duck Dive’ which took place at the Empress Pool on Tuesday last week.

The duo (snooker ace Joe Perry and boxing legend Dave ‘Boy’ Green MBE) helped to make the event – staged in aid of the club’s floodlights – a huge success.

The club stated: “We would like to take the opportunity to thank both Joe Perry and Dave ‘Boy’ Green MBE for taking part in the event.

“They were both brilliant and everybody enjoyed themselves. We would also like to say thank you to all who purchased ducks. We can now safely say that our floodlights will soon be working on ‘full power’ after doing the repairs with the money raised.”

l Meanwhile, every year the residents of the Upwell Park Retirement Home in Upwell Road, March, hold a pool competition on a table that was donated to them. In fact every afternoon there is a regular gathering to play and chat.

Perry, the world snooker number 12, kindly agreed to pose holding the trophy that they all play for – and the picture shown now sits proudly on the wall beside the table.

Some of the residents have joked that he’d have a hard time winning it against some of their talented players!

l All of the Chatteris FC teams playing at West Street on December 6 lined up to honour the 1914 Christmas Truce match as part of Football Remembers.

The visitors were Outwell Swifts Res and Milton Res and they stood together alongside the Lilies Reserves and A team.
