March Town A beat Chatteris Town in Senior B derby clash
March Town A emerged victorious from their Cambs County League Senior B derby clash with visiting Chatteris Town on Saturday.
Fourth placed Hares took a 2-0 first half lead when an Alfie Richardson corner was palmed in the net, followed by a Fred Fisher goal. An Adam Egerton penalty on the stroke of half time saw the tenth placed Lilies pull one back, but the final score remained 2-1 to the home side.
In the Premier Division, Wisbech St Mary drop down to sixth after a 4-0 home beating by new leaders Cambridge University Press, while March Town Reserves remain bottom and five points from safety after losing 4-1 at Over Sports.
Two goals from Toby Allen and one from substitute Robbie Knight saw AFC Emneth beat fellow Senior A outfit Eaton Socon Reserves 3-1 in the semi-final of the William Cockell Memorial League Cup.
Allen's first was a dink over the keeper in the first half after a lovely ball behind the defence by Jamie Leet. Socon pulled one back after the break. Tom Hinton and sub Robbie Knight combined to set up Allen to smash in his 30th of the season late on, and then Allen put through Knight to seal the deal.
The Honey Badgers will now meet another Senior A side, Thaxted Rangers, in the final at Newmarket Town on Friday, March 3, kick-off 7.45pm.
Wimblington stay top of 1B after thrashing Needingworth United 5-1, Alexander Knowles grabbing a hat-trick to make it 11 for the campaign and Daniel Harradine with his seventh and sub Rory Parker also netting.
Benwick Athletic were unable to do Wimblington a favour though, as they went down 3-2 at title challengers Buckden, Dayne Moore netting twice to take him to 11 for the season.
Fen Tigers Engineers remain just above the 2B drop zone after a 4-2 home defeat against Huntingdon United Reserves, Matthew Foy and Will Terry scoring, and Manea United remain bottom after a 2-1 loss to visiting Crusaders 2019, Harry Ashwood netting. Chatteris Town Reserves, of 2B, lost their William Coad League Cup semi-final 2-0 at home to Tuddenham Rovers, of 2A.
Outwell Swifts continue their push for promotion from 3B with a 1-0 win at AFC Ely, Adan-Jay Lewis' 21st of the season doing the damage. AFC Emneth Reserves are also looking to go up and won 6-3 at Hemingfords United A, Ben Garner getting two to make it 19 for the season, and Jesse Hemmings, Bradley Kennedy and subs Micah-Joe Baxter and Micheal Price also on target.
In 4B, Doddington Three Lions beat Upwell Town 3-0, Liam Brady netting twice and Matthew Moore also on target, and Guyhirn beat Manea United Reserves 1-0.
Tydd were beaten 2-1 at Warboys Town in the Peterborough League Premier Division, Max Burrell scoring after four minutes following a flowing move. Tydd remain six points from the relegation zone and second from bottom Leverington Sports, who lost a crucial game 5-3 at basement side Ramsey Town, who recorded their first win of the campaign.
Long Sutton Athletic did their Division One survival aspirations the world of good with a 3-1 win at Stilton United Reserves, Calvin Bird netting all three. Tydd Reserves are still bottom of Division 2 but gave themselves hope with a 3-2 home win over Wittering Premiair A, Mitchell Johnson (2) and Ricky Holstead scoring. Leverington Sports Reserves drop closer to danger, however, after losing 1-0 at home to Oakham United Reserves.
Battling Sutton Bridge United went down 3-2 to high-flying Park Farm Pumas Reserves in Division Three. Bridge twice came from behind with goals from Ryan Brothwell and Craig Pack, only to lose to a penalty deep into added on time. Leverington Sports A drew 1-1 at home to bottom side Parkside in Division Four, John Rowe scoring.
Marshland Saints won 3-0 at Clenchwarton in the Quarter Final of the North West Norfolk League Division One Cup. Sam Cubberley with his 17th goal of the season, Callum Rogers with his 13th and Dave Abbott with his sixth were on target.
