March Town Ladies thump Manea Sirens in League Cup clash

March Town Ladies thumped Manea Sirens 6-0 in their League Cup encounter at the weekend.

It was a game of firsts for the Hares - a first game against the newly formed Sirens, a first for having mascots at a game, a debut for Brooke Harris, a first outfield appearance for goalkeeper Peggy Thurlby and first goals for the club for Tahleya Roncari and Emily Sandell.

The club were delighted to invite the under-10s side to be their mascots, with the youngsters getting involved in the team warmup and walking out with the ladies - and munching hot dogs with them at full-time.

The Hares got off to an excellent start, and Eleanor McLeish opened the scoring at the near post after an inch-perfect cross from Deva Rawlins.

Player of the match McLeish continued to terrorise the Manea defenders, and bagged a hat-trick before the half-time whistle with two lovely finishes.

Roncari then scored one herself before the break.

The Sirens continued to battle hard in the second half, while McLeish and Sandell both fired efforts against the post.

Roncari netted her second after a stunning run from the halfway line, while Sandell slotted home from close range for the final goal after good work from Thurlby.

The victory sets March up nicely for next week's contest against Leverington, with both points sitting on three points in their League Cup group.

After the game, coach Gary Davis said: "It was great to have March Academy with us for the game and they were a real credit to their club. We wish them good luck for the rest of the season."
