Cambs Division 1 leaders Wisbech Town lose by four wickets against Old Leysians
League leaders Wisbech Town fell to defeat to Old Leysians by four wickets in Cambs Division 1 on Saturday.
Gary Freear top-scored with 81 off 110 balls (11 fours and a six) as Wisbech made 288-5 in 50 overs.
Sam Albutt struck 35, keeper Josh Bowers 64 with eight boundaries, Ryan Clark not out 27, Jamie Seabrook 24 and Jonny Garner not out 14.
Old Leysians got the runs with six wickets down. Josh Porter grabbed 3-53, Chris Clark 1-49, Gary Freear 1-64 and Seabrook 1-38.
Wisbech lead chasers Foxton Granta by 10 points.
Meanwhile, Wisbech 2nds’ bowlers wilted in the heat in Division 3 and lost to leaders Biggleswade by 236 runs.
Sam Oakins hit 183 as Biggleswade smashed 365-9 in 45 overs - Dom Stannard’s sole over cost 33 runs. Brodie Ellis took 1-60, Adam Gardner 4-62, Ali Anthony 2-43 and Simon Freear 1-48.
Lowly Wisbech fell to 129 all out from 27.5 overs. Simon Freear made 23 and Lewis Jackson 53 from as many balls to leave them deep in relegation danger.
Wisbech 3rds lost at City of Ely 2nds by 74 runs in CCA Junior League 2 North.
George Leech hammered 175 as City of Ely posted 320-6 in 40 overs at The Paradise Centre. Mark Buttriss took 1-87, Robert Sidgewick 2-58, Colin Freear 1-52, Finlay Murdoch 1-41 and Martin Woollard 1-36.
Wisbech replied with 246-9. Woollard scored 38, Tom Jupp 68 with 10 fours and two sixes, Murdoch 29 and Sidgewick not out 26.
Wisbech 4ths triumphed by eight wickets over CCA Junior League 5 North visitors City of Ely 3rds.
City of Ely made 218-8 when 40 overs closed. Oliver Overland bagged 2-35, Louis Avis 2-37, Dan Crossley a tidy 1-22 and Sam Murphy 1-25.
Wisbech cruised to 222-2 in 36.3 overs. Openers Adrian Clare (not out 112, hitting 17 fours and three sixes) and George Purell (65) made the result safe with a stand of 160 to give themselves a chance of promotion.
Aron Visser carried his bat for an unbeaten 122 as eighth-placed March Town demolished Stamford Town by 143 runs in Division 1.
March set 299-5 in 50 overs. Visser hit 14 fours from 127 balls, while fellow opener Alex Millard made 26, Brandon Phillips 54 off 70 balls, Benjamin Pyle 20, Curtis Oldroyd 29 and Ruwan Pitigala not out 11.
Visser and Phillips added 86 for the third wicket.
Stamford Town were skittled for 156 in 38.1 overs. Samuel Clarke took 2-42, Sam Robinson 9.1-2-22-4 and Visser 7-0-14-4 to round off a cracking match.
March 2nds claimed CCA Senior League Division 1 bragging rights after beating hosts Chatteris by five wickets.
Chatteris were dismissed for 174 in 42.4 overs at Fullers Cricket Ground.
March reached 177-5 in the 38th over. No details were available.
Chatteris are sixth while March are still 30 points from safety.
Hosts in fifth position Wimblington lost to Haddenham by 35 runs in CCA Junior League 4 North.
Visiting Haddenham first team, immediately below Wimblington, posted 163-7 in 40 overs.
Wimblington replied with 128-9 at the close. J Marsh and R Kemp put on a 50 partnership in 65 balls .
