Stock racing's British Championship came to King's Lynn on Saturday as local racers impressed

Local drivers impressed once again as the British Championship came to King’s Lynn on Saturday.

With both 1300 and 2L stock cars in action, there was plenty for supporters to cheer about despite no local winners in either formula.

Karl Morris was up against a high quality field of nearly forty cars in the 1300 event, and managed to come home in thirteenth place despite being spun out of action a couple of times.

His battling prowess was on display as he refused to give up and still finished in a commendable position.

Karl’s finish means he has qualified for the Steve Newman Memorial race – a race in memory of a driver who lost his life whilst racing a Saloon Stock Car.

London’s Lee Pearce has been dominant in championships in recent years, and added another title to his burgeoning list on Saturday’s 1300 race.

In a later race, Dean Moat challenged the leaders and managed to secure a second-place finish.

He spent the last few of his laps chasing leader Jamie Blackman, but came up just short in the battle for victory.

Morris finished fifth in the same race.

Both Morris and Moat are being touted for a move up the rankings when grade changes are announced on July 1.

In the 2L event, Tommy Parrin finished in sixth in his first heat before crashing out in his second having gotten up to second place.

Unfortunately Parrin was unable to take part in the British Championship itself. He was about to move his car from the pit area when he noticed a pool of oil below his car which was the result of a cracked gearbox.

Racing returns to King’s Lynn this Saturday at 5pm with 2L, 1500cc, Micro and Junior events all taking place.

Local drivers in action will include James Licquorice, Kieran Bowman and micro-banger participants Aston Gibbons and Aaron Davey, who will be making his debut.

There will also be a Junior Bangers date with a white and yellow grade meeting.

Jade Ellis will be racing on that date, and she will be joined by Sophie Allen, Kiera Downing and Katelyn and Rhys Parrin.

Rhys impressed on his 13th birthday last week by taking a chequered flag in his heat before finishing eighth in the following final.

He will be hoping for more of the same next week when he takes part in the latest races of his young career.
