Tydd St Giles hosting 19th Exotic Cat Show

Top cats will be strutting their stuff when the 19th Exotic Cat Society championship show takes place at Tydd St Giles Community Centre on Saturday, January 11.

Between 50 and 60 exotic short hairs, Persians and household pets will be on view, hoping to be crowned best feline in their class.

The doors at the Broad Drove East (PE13 5LN) centre are open to the public from 12.30pm and the event will run until about 4pm.

Entry is £3 for adults and £1.50 for children and OAPs.

In addition to being able to see exotic short hairs (short-haired Persians), long-haired Persians and pedigree and non-pedigree pets of various breeds, show visitors can also browse a variety of stalls – including an Exotic Cat Society club stall – and enjoy a tombola, raffle and refreshments.

Judging goes on throughout the morning, from about 10am, and then show visitors will see contenders for the best-in-show honours being scrutinised out of their cages by the judges at about 2.30pm.

There are a variety of trophies, certificates and rosettes at stake and class winners will be able to display their accolades on their pens.

The show is managed by Stuart and Barbara McEwen, of the Cottage Cattery at West Walton, and will be the eighth to be held in Tydd St Giles.

It was first staged 25 years ago, achieving championship status with the Exotic Cat Society 19 years ago.

Stuart, who is treasurer of the society, said: “The show is a great opportunity to see some really lovely cats up close and it attracts cat-lovers from all over Fenland.”
